Statement:
The Oceanside School District is located in a suburban community in Nassau County, on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. Its presence on the web can be found at http://www.oceansideschools.org.
The Oceanside High School Library will provide the place and the resources for students to accomplish curriculum and independent educational goals.
The mastery of student skills through interdisciplinary approaches, active learning and cooperation between classroom teachers and librarians is the ultimate goal of the research component of the program.
Students are encouraged to become lifelong library users: to acquire the skills necessary to access information for power and understanding. Teachers and librarians work together to plan lessons that enable the students to accomplish and assimilate curriculum goals using the research process. Skills may be taught in the classroom or Library Media Center and reinforced, expanded upon, or reviewed in the Library Media Center for sequential learning.
Forecasters predict that future means of accessing many reference sources will be done primarily in electronic formats. We therefore have automated where possible and teach the necessary skills to enable students to become competent users of technology as keys to information.
