The District will provide insurance coverage on iPads that have been with families less than three years. District coverage includes up to two breakages over three years. Parents will pay a deductible of $49 for each of the two repair instances. The coverage of the iPads that are provided for the first time to students during the 2016-17 school year will cease on September 1, 2019 or sooner, depending on the number of claims on the iPad. If two breakages are claimed prior to this date, coverage will cease immediately after the second claim.
Most of the 10th and 11th grade students are no longer covered under district coverage we formerly purchased from Apple. If you are the parent of a 10th or 11th grade student and would like to check the status of the AppleCare insurance on the iPad please go to https://checkcoverage.apple.com.
The coverage, as described above, does not include loss, stolen, or broken through malicious intent. Due to this lack of coverage and based on prior experience, we encourage all parents to consider purchasing additional insurance. Below you will find flyers from two reputable iPad insurance providers. Please research the offerings and purchase the one that is best for your family needs. You DO NOT have to purchase insurance from these companies. These are suggestions only. You may purchase from whom ever you choose or look at your existing homeowners’ policy for information.
Many of our students and families ask us if they can get their iPads repaired locally so that the process can be expedited. The answer is yes. We have a relationship with UBreakIFix in Rockville Center. If you bring your school issued ID you will receive a discount for the school iPad as well as any personal device you may need repaired. There are many businesses available locally that can assist with the repair of the iPad. When choosing one, make sure that a warranty/guarantee is provided, in writing, on any work done to the iPad so you have recourse in the event the repair is faulty.
Lastly, responsibility for any damage or charges incurred for work done to the iPad outside of the repair coverage provided through the insurance mechanism set in place by the Oceanside School District lies with the student/family on record as borrower of the iPad.
How to place a claim with Oceanside School District:
Upon breakage, please send in a check with your child for $49.00 made out to Oceanside School District. The student should bring the check and the device to the Library Media Center. Once the device and the check are received the Library staff will assist with providing the student a loaner iPad. The loaner iPad then becomes the responsibility of the student. Once the student’s iPad is repaired the student will be notified and the repaired iPad will be returned to the student.
