OHS World Interest Club Has Spectacular Win at Harvard

The Oceanside High School World Interest Club, which studies international relations and participates in Model United Nations conferences, has taken multiple top awards at the recent Harvard Model UN. Isabella Picillo and Rachel Weissman were named Best Delegates. Outstanding Delegates included Rita Bogdanova-Shapkina, Justin Ciocoi, Josena Joseph, Suraj Mohan, Dylan Persaud, and Jenna Picciano. Olivia Degen, Liam Fager, and Mason Penn received Honorable Mention. In addition, Thanae Stoupas received Verbal Commendation. The students’ advisors are OHS teachers Danielle Block and Talia Madden.

The Harvard Model United Nations conference began as a model League of Nations in 1927. More than 3,000 high school students from as many as forty countries around the world attend. Students take on the role of delegates and the conference simulates genuine United Nations sessions and topics, including waking delegates in the middle of the night to handle crises.
