From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents,

On behalf of our entire staff, we would like to welcome our new first grade students and our returning second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students!  For those of you who are new to our school, I want you to know that you are coming to an absolutely wonderful place.  The teachers and staff are passionate, caring, hardworking, and always learning something new for the benefit of your children. We are a collaborative and driven group of people who take learning seriously while also making personal connections that help kids succeed.

I am looking forward to meeting new faces, revisiting with familiar ones, as well as hearing all about your summer adventures!  I believe that building strong relationships between home and school is a key factor in increasing student achievement.  In addition, I strongly believe that parental involvement is an essential component to student success, as research continues to show strong correlation between increased involvement and high student success.

This year we have hired 3 new certified staff!  Our new fifth grade teacher, Ms. Tina Pumo, will be be moving from third grade, where she was a leave replacement teacher last year.  Ms. Pumo grew up in Oceanside and brings enthusiasm and a collaborative nature to our school.  In addition, we also hired a new reading teacher for School #5, Mrs. Alison Leone.  Ms. Leone come to us with experience from the NYC Public Schools.  We are thrilled to have her on board!  Lastly, we hired a new psychologist, Mrs. Emily Bogart.  Mrs. Bogart comes to us with experience working with elementary aged children and we are looking forward to her joining our family!

All of our teachers and support staff have spent hours preparing materials, creating child-centered classrooms, and preparing classrooms for our students.  Secretaries and office staff have registered new students, put together information packets to be sent home, and organized new materials.

Additionally, I would like to offer my sincere thanks and appreciation to our custodial staff. They worked diligently throughout the summer to clean and ready the school.  There were many facility updates, including some new floors and bookcases installed this summer and our building looks great!!!

We are very much looking forward to watching the students stream off of the buses and out of cars and to have the hallways filled with the hustle and bustle that has been absent all summer.  Old friendships are quickly rekindled and new friendships made. Students swap stories about their summer and show off new backpacks and school supplies.
